TV screenlines

Post by Pikachu3828 »

It's been a while since any tutorials have been posted here so I may as well be the first to add a new one. This tutorial will show you how to make your image appear as if it has been taken from a TV by adding the screenlines that ofte come along with it. Useful little feature if you're drawing a TV and want to add a little more realism to the onscreen picture.
  1. Firstly, we need an original picture. It can be any picture you like. For this tutorial, I'm going to take an anime pic, something which may very well have come from a TV!
    Image
  2. Create a new file with the dimensions 1x2 pixels. You're going to have to zoom in to fit this one on screen.
  3. Select the pencil tool, and with it set to 1 pixel master diameter, draw a black box on the bottom pixel so you end up with something like this:
    Image
  4. Next go to Edit -> Define Pattern. Be sure to name it something relevant.
    Image
Now you're done with the screenline, open up your original image you wish to turn into a TV picture.
  5. Go to Edit -> Fill. Select "Pattern" from the Use dropdown menu and select the pattern you just made. Play around with the opacity, I find about 50% works well.
  6. You're done! Now if you wish you can simply place this image into a TV screen to make it look more realistic!

Woopy's PSP 9/X tutorial of the same thing

Firstly, we need an even better original picture!
Image

Note to save bandwidth this has been done in 256 color mode so it looks choppy.

Now, go into materials, gradient and edit!
Image
Now, download the following file, and move it to My Documents/My PSP Files <b>or<b> Program Files/Jasc/Paint Shop Pro/Gradients
Clickeh
On our original image, we apply the following
Image
Gradient: Scanlines
Angle: 0
Repeats: Height - 2
Now go to fill tool and select 200 tolerance, and voilá!
Image
You can fiddle around with the invert, set opacity to 50 for nice results too.
I also created a white scanlines [Clickeh]
Hallo n_~
